WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 3/3 Wartburg football team (13-1 overall) narrowly fell to No. 1/1 North Central (14-0) 34-27 in an NCAA Playoff Semifinal Saturday. After trailing 20-0 early in the second quarter, the Orange and Black later took the lead at 27-26 with 12:17 left in the fourth quarter. This was the first time the Cardinals had trailed all season.Â
Two possessions later, North Central capitalized on an interception and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 5:40 to play.Â
On a fourth-and-one from North Central's five-yard line, the Orange and Black were unable to convert to turn the ball over on downs with 0:24 to go.
This was the first time in program history the Knights had been selected to host this round.Â
